When: Sunday, June 5, 1 PM - 4 PM

Where: ROW DTLA

What We’re Doing: Polymer clay is a dynamic and versatile medium that is perfect for lightweight, modern, handcrafted accessories. Everyone will be provided with basic tools and clay; just bring a crafter’s love for creative exploration and perhaps have a favorite flower in mind. In this workshop, we’ll learn how to color mix, condition, cut, and sculpt simple fruits and flowers in clay. Then, we’ll cure the earrings in the classroom and assemble them. Participants will get an overview of basic polymer and jewelry-making techniques, with an emphasis on florals, as well as a fun introduction to its huge potential. Everyone will leave with 1-2 completed pairs of their own personalized wearable earrings and an instruction booklet to continue their journey at home

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Jessica Roberson is an educator and artist in Los Angeles who experiments with many kinds of making, following her curiosity from sewing, weaving and book arts to ceramics and beyond. However, she picked up polymer clay during the pandemic and has yet to put it down, drawn to its plasticity and multi-faceted potential. She makes unique polymer and mixed-media jewelry under the name Clay Terroir, taking inspiration from that wine-making term, which refers to the holistic expression of place, climate and tradition in a particular vintage. Her work is rooted in the dual influences of the California landscape and her work as a teacher and literature scholar. She believes in storytelling through making.

Please note: In the interest of keeping our creative community safe & well as we navigate the pandemic, we are requiring proof of vaccination or a negative test result dated within 48 hours of the workshop date for all class participants, instructors, and staff. Everyone is also to remain fully masked during workshops except when actively eating or drinking. If you have any questions about our policies, please send an email to info@makersmess.com.

What You’re Bringing: Just Yourself! Your craft kit will be waiting for you with all materials included. Our in-person workshops are BYOB and suggested for adults only, but email us if you think you have a super crafty teen and we will see if we can make an exception!
