Valerie Jurado Botanical Design is a studio florist nestled in Northeast Los Angeles. Owner & Designer, Valerie, is self taught and has been running the show since 2010. She started working with flowers straight out of high school in 2000, and on and off through college. She studied at Cal State Long Beach and obtained her BA in Women's Studies. While counseling young girls and organizing labor unions, she kept finding herself retreating back to floral design. She ventured to New York City in 2006, in hopes of starting a career as an Event Planner. Two flower shop jobs later, she became the Intern and Event Coordinator for the Queens Botanical Garden. She spearheaded the seasonal internship program, while simultaneously coordinating corporate and social events at their LEED Platinum-Certified building. However, home was in LA. She moved back, traveled to various countries, but still felt confined in the average 9-5. She started designing weekly flowers for Bottega Louie and the JW Marriott at LA Live. Slowly she built her clientele. With an intent to be her own boss, she took the leap...and here she is six years later, designing for events, weddings, and corporate, all while still being able to travel on days off.
Valerie's workshop is designed to teach students how to assemble, plant, and maintain an Outdoor Vertical Wall Garden. Students will be provided with a pre made 16x10 wooden frame with an aluminum screen, paint, and tools. Pick a color, paint your box, fill it with Soil and Sphagnum Moss and enclose the back. Choose from a variety of colorful Succulents, desoil them, and plant away! You will be given care instructions at the end of class on how to hang and maintain your new, outdoor wall garden. Get ready to get dirty!
