Lisa Young has been weaving baskets and bowls and tucking little treasures in them since she was a young girl. Her fascination began when visiting a family friend and noticing a row of miniature pineneedle coiled baskets displayed on the piano. She knew how to coil a basket by the next day! Today, Lisa's aesthetics in her basketry are informed and influenced by her background in art history, folk culture & traditions, her travels, and upbringing in domestic arts (crochet, sewing, loom weaving). Lisa has been teaching art to children and adults for over ten years, focusing on basket weaving for the past five.
In Lisa's workshops, each weaver will learn to start a coil and shape it into their own unique vessel using a variety of fibers: twine, raffia, yarn, and threads. Weavers are encouraged to create their own designs or patterns while inspired by a selection of colors and textures. The possibilities are endless! All materials will be supplied for the workshop. Attendees are welcome to bring their own fibers that they imagine mingled into their weave.
