Rachel Corry started her handmade shoe company 'Rachel Sees Snail Shoes' in 2010. She lives in Portland, Oregon where she makes custom sandals and shoes for individuals and small orders for shops. Rachel teaches sandal-making classes all along the west coast. She loves passing on the craft of handmade shoes!
In Rachel's workshop, participants will design and assemble a pair of open-toe, open-heeled sandals to take home. These will be built using your own feet and only a few simple tools. You may choose to work from provided test patterns, copy a beloved sandal-shape of your own, or invent something new.
Materials include vegetable tanned or colored leather uppers, heavy leather insoles, cushioned rubber soles, brass shoe tacks, and various lacing and hardware. Come prepared for a day filled with cutting, scratching, glueing, stamping, hammering, pressing, and lots of creative decision-making. Sandal-making is a great introduction to the complex world of shoe making.
